What Is Lower Eye Fat Grafting?

Also called under-eye fat transfer, this technique moves purified fat from a small donor spot (belly or flanks) to the tear-trough area.

Unlike hyaluronic-acid fillers that often sit too deep and can turn bluish (Tyndall effect), fat is layered superficially and “feathered” so light bounces naturally off the skin. Swelling peaks at day three, fades by 7–10 days, and results can last for years.

Ideal for:  anyone considering more than two syringes of tear-trough filler but wanting a softer, longer-lasting fix.

How Lower Eye Fat Grafting Works

  1. Prep & anesthesia

Quick local tumescent anesthesia; light oral sedation optional (no general needed).

  2. Harvest

Micro-liposuction removes a few teaspoons of fat, then it’s washed and purified.

  3. Enrichment

Fat may be blended with PRP or biostimulatory agents for extra collagen (add-on fee).

  4. Feather-Transfer

Surgeon fans micro-threads of fat in the superficial plane under the lower-lid muscle; no sutures or visible scars.

  5. Timeline:

90 minutes total; you’re discharged within 30 minutes of completion.

  6. Follow-up:

    visits at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, plus doctor-guided follow-up through 12 months.

FAQ — Lower Eye Fat Grafting

How much does Lower Eye Fat Grafting cost?
Starts at $5,500 and covers the board-certified surgeon’s fee, private surgical suite, local anesthesia, and 12-month doctor-guided follow-up. Optional enhancements—such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or collagen-stimulating blends—are available for an additional charge. With approved credit, payments can be as low as $150–$350 per month after a typical deposit. An exact quote is provided after an in-person exam because individual anatomy and goals vary.
Can I go home the same day?
Absolutely. You’ll relax in recovery for a brief safety check and usually head home about 30 minutes after the procedure; a responsible adult must drive you.
Will I need special after-care?
Care is simple: apply cool compresses, sleep with your head elevated, avoid vigorous exercise for five days, and use sunscreen. No drains, sutures, compression garments, or lymphatic massages are required.
How does fat transfer compare with tear-trough fillers?
Fat can be placed more superficially than filler, avoiding the deep lumps, migration, and bluish “Tyndall effect” sometimes seen after repeated HA injections. Results are also longer-lasting, so you eliminate the cycle of yearly touch-ups.
Does the procedure hurt?
Local tumescent anesthesia blocks pain; most patients feel only mild pressure. Over-the-counter pain relief is usually sufficient for a day or two.
Will I have visible scars?
No. Micro-cannula entry points are needle-size and hidden in natural creases; they typically fade from view within days.
How long do results last?
Roughly 60–80% of the transferred fat survives permanently. With stable weight and diligent sun protection, results often last many years before a touch-up is considered.
Can fat grafting be combined with other eye treatments?
Yes. Popular pairings include lower-lid skin-pinch surgery for extra skin tightening, laser resurfacing for texture improvement, and PRP or biostimulatory additives to boost collagen—all priced separately.
Can multiple areas be treated in one visit?
We typically treat one area at a time for optimal safety and precision. If you want several zones improved, your surgeon can outline a staged plan.
